Chile One Is Not My Competition – Yo Maps Draws the Line on Music Rivalries
The singer explained that while competition is an important part of any creative industry, it must be purposeful and motivating rather than forced or sensational.
Yo Maps on Meaningful Competition
According to Yo Maps, not every rivalry qualifies as healthy competition. He believes real competition should challenge an artiste to improve creatively, commercially, and professionally.
“I love competition and I actually need it,” he said. “But it has to be competition that pushes me forward and makes me want to grow.”
He added that comparisons with Chile One do not offer that kind of challenge, describing them as unnecessary at this stage of his career.
Different Journeys, Different Levels
Yo Maps pointed out that artistes are on different journeys and should not always be measured using the same scale. He believes success should be evaluated through tangible milestones rather than online debates.
Over the years, the singer has achieved several major career highlights, including filling some of Zambia’s largest entertainment venues — accomplishments that few local artistes can claim.
“I’ve filled Showgrounds, performed at major music clubs multiple times, and even filled Heroes Stadium,” he stated. “These milestones speak for themselves.”
Looking Beyond Local Comparisons
Rather than focusing on local rivalries, Yo Maps revealed that his personal benchmarks are set against some of Africa’s most successful artistes.
He mentioned stars such as Stonebwoy, Rema, Diamond Platnumz, and Harmonize as the kind of artistes who inspire him to think bigger and aim higher.
“That’s the level I look at,” he said. “Those artistes push me to improve my sound, my performances, and my global presence.”
Competition Without Conflict
Yo Maps also addressed the culture of rivalry-driven drama within the music industry, warning that unhealthy comparisons often create unnecessary tension.
According to him, competition should encourage excellence and unity rather than division among artistes and fans.
“Competition should inspire growth,” he said. “It shouldn’t create drama that doesn’t help anyone.”
A Message to Fans and Media
In closing, Yo Maps urged fans, bloggers, and media platforms to promote narratives that support creativity and progress instead of fueling debates that add little value.
As one of Zambia’s most influential artistes, Yo Maps continues to focus on building a lasting legacy, expanding his international reach, and pushing his craft beyond local boundaries.
